Is a doula the same thing as a midwife?
No. A doula provides no medical or nursing care. Since she doesn’t have these responsibilities, or other patients to attend to, she can give her complete attention to being by the birthing person’s side for the entire length of her labor.

With covid, are doulas allow to attend hospital births?
Most hospitals have begun to allow a second support person to attend the birth. Check with your hospital for their specific policies.
Does a doula take the place of the partner?
No, doulas support all the members of the birthing family. A doula’s presence helps partners participate at their own comfort level, The birthing partners decide how much support they need and in what way.
can a doula still help if there’s an epideral or c-section?
Yes. A doula’s presence is helpful during early labor and during the epidural placement process. She then continues to care for the woman and her family, offering emotional and informational support. Some hospitals will allow the doula to be present for the cesarean, allowing the partner to go with the baby while the doula stays with the birthing person.
when does the doula come to my home when i’m in labor?
I will check in with you periodically by phone when you think your labor is starting. Once you need hands on support to cope with contractions, I will come to your home and stay with you throughout the birth and for 1-2 hours afterwards.
